Aggressive Protection Of Your Rights

At the office of attorney John Wilkie, we have over 30 years of experience defending individuals throughout east and central Illinois who have been charged with a felony or misdemeanor. We understand that when you face criminal prosecution you often want to speak to your lawyer right away. We strive to be there when you need to talk to us, but will promptly return your call or email if we are serving other clients at the time.

We recognize that every legal situation is unique and listen carefully to the details of your case so that we can provide counsel that meets your needs.

Our Criminal Defense Practice

We defend people charged with all types of misdemeanors and felonies, from minor infractions to serious criminal charges, including homicide/murder. Specifically, we handle the defense of cases involving charges of:

  • Violation of drug laws. We protect the rights of people who have been charged with drug crimes, including possession, sale or distribution, and manufacturing. We handle cases involving a wide range of illegal substances such as marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, heroin, and even prescription drugs.
  • Assault and/or battery, including domestic violence.
  • Theft crimes. We defend people charged with grand or petty larceny, shoplifting, burglary, robbery or receipt of stolen goods.
  • Sex offenses. We handle cases involving allegations of rape or sexual assault.

Though we have extensive trial experience and are always ready to take your case to court to protect your interests, we also know when and how to negotiate a plea bargain to protect your rights if that is in your best interest.

Our criminal defense practice often goes hand in hand with our immigration counsel. Many of the clients whose rights we protect in criminal proceedings are also applicants for visas or green cards. We understand how criminal matters can affect your immigration status and will use our extensive experience to help minimize the consequences of an arrest or conviction.
